English Premier League starts on August 9
Newly promoted Sheffield United and Norwich among early favorites for relegation
Both teams leading the betting for the EPL team to score the fewest goals
There are just two weeks to go until the start of the English Premier League season on August 9 and as well as the obvious interest in who’s in the frame to win it, it’s also worth looking at the opposite end of the table.
As always, the promoted teams are at the forefront of the betting for relegation and so Sheffield United, Norwich and, to a lesser extent, Aston Villa find themselves in that group of unfancied teams. Related to this, sportsbooks are also offering odds on the lowest-scoring team in this year’s league.

Sheffield United and Norwich have the shortest odds to be the lowest-scoring team in the EPL, at +300 and +350 respectively, but are either a good bet or could someone else be in line for a poor season and offer better value? We’ll take a closer look.
Blades on the Rise
Sheffield United start the season as favorites to go down but will be far from the pushovers the pundits and sportsbooks expect. Manager Chris Wilder has put together a side that is well-organized, plays with passion and which is tactically and technically adept.

Wilder has also adapted an almost unique playing style that will make the Blades difficult to play against this season. With a system that fluctuates between 3-4-1-2, 3-5-2 and 5-3-2 and which relies, oddly, on ball-playing center backs joining in with the attack at every given opportunity.
This proved very successful in the Championship and was, in fact, unplayable at times. While it was ultimately the Blades’ rock-solid defense that was as the core of their success, they did score 78 in their 46 games at an average of 1.7 per game, and, in Billy Sharp, had one the league’s leading goalscorers (23).
They have added to their striking options for the new season by signing former Bournemouth forward, Lys Mousset for £10 million.

Canaries Hopeful of Survival
Daniel Farke’s Norwich City team smashed the Championship, winning the title and scoring 93 goals in the process – by far the most goals scored in the division. They also had the league’s leading scorer, the Finn, Teemu Pukki, who scored 29 times as the Canaries won the league by five points.
Clearly goals will be harder to come by for Norwich in the EPL but the team’s expansive and pleasing-on-the-eye style of football will see them create chances this season, even against the league’s top six. Pukki, won’t score 29 this time around but he’s capable of getting 15 and his team are capable of avoiding a swift return to the Championship.
Newcastle were the next lowest goalscorers (42) and after a tumultuous summer which has seen them lose manager Rafa Benitez and replace him with journeyman coach Steve Bruce, this could be a tough season for the Magpies. For those that fancy a longshot, odds of +1600 offer great value. Southampton too, at +1400, look to offer value having only scored 45 goals last season.
Our pick: Newcastle +1600
