The Czech Republic vs Denmark kicks off on Saturday in a Euro 2020 match which will ensure a surprise qualifier for the last four.

Neither team was expected to go this deep into the tournament.

But the Czechs pulled off a shock 2-0 defeat of the much-fancied Netherlands side in the last 16, with the Dutch team reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of defender Matthijs de Ligt.

Meanwhile, Denmark recovered from the stunning blow of playmaker Christian Eriksen’s collapse on the pitch – and from defeats in their first two group games – to reach this quarterfinal showdown in Baku.

The Czechs made it out of the opening stage as third-place finishers in Group D behind England and Croatia.

Danes Hit Eight in Two Games

A powerful 4-1 victory over Russia in the Danes’ final match in Group B handed it a second-place finish on goal difference despite those defeats by Finland and Belgium.

Driven on by an emotional reaction to Eriksen’s dramatic heart trouble episode which won it the backing of many neutral fans, Denmark then thrashed Wales 4-0 in the last 16.

Now the oddsmakers at FanDuel rate Denmark as a +110 favorite to win the quarterfinal with the Czechs priced at +280 – and a semifinal place at Wembley for the taking.

With kick-off at 12:00 pm ET, the draw after 90 minutes is rated at +210 which looks to be the best value on offer here.

Significantly, the Danes have proven themselves tactically versatile at the tournament. So it is likely to revert to a 3-4-3 formation after a switch to 4-3-3 in the defeat of Wales.

Both set-ups have proven to be hugely successful in attacking terms, although the two most recent wins came against two of the competition’s weaker sides.

Denmark has scored eight times in the previous two games after managing to score only once in the opening two fixtures – a 1-0 defeat by Finland and then a 2-1 setback against Belgium.

In particular, the forward Kasper Dolberg of French Ligue1 outfit Nice scored twice against Wales.

But the team has shared around goalscoring duties with Yussuf Poulsen of Red Bull Leipzig also scoring twice at the tournament so far.

Further goals have come from Mikkel Damsgaard, defender Andreas Christensen and Martin Braithwaite – with Atalanta full-back Joakim Maehle claiming two more.

Meanwhile, the Danes also have one of the best goalkeepers at the tournament in Kasper Schmeichel.

And, after conceding three times in the opening two matches, the team has since tightened up and has subsequently conceded only once.

Up against him will be the Czech striker Patrik Schick who made an instant impact at the tournament with his 49.7 yard shot over the Scotland goalkeeper’s head in the 2-0 win in the opening Group D game in Glasgow.

Schick scored twice in that game – and now has four goals after scoring from the penalty spot in the following 1-1 draw with Croatia and netting the second goal in the 2-0 defeat of the Netherlands.

In the final Group D game, the Czechs lost 1-0 against England at Wembley.

Schick the Czech’s Attacking Threat

The team has largely used a 4-2-3-1 formation during the competition with Schick as its attacking spearhead.

However, the team’s greatest strength lies in its tight organization and its defensive discipline.

There was a 1-1 draw the last time these nations met in a friendly in 2016.

They met at this stage of the competition at Euro 2004, with the Czechs winning 3-0.

This time, to sum up, it is likely the game will be a tight affair despite the goal-scoring exploits of the Danes and the Czech striker Schick.

It means it is most likely to be all square at the end of normal time.
