The rich get richer. Owners of the best record in baseball, the New York Yankees (51-24, 23-10 home) welcome back reigning AL Cy Young-winner Gerrit Cole to the rotation on Wednesday night when the Pinstripes host the AL’s second-best team, the Baltimore Orioles (47-25, 22-11 away), at Yankee Stadium at 7:00 pm ET.
New York took the first game of the three-game set on Tuesday night (4-2) and are heavily favored to win the second in Wednesday’s Orioles vs Yankees odds.

The public is currently hammering the Yankees in the MLB public-betting splits. New York is getting 88% of moneyline handle as 79% of runline handle.
The Yankees (+450) continue to close the gap on the Dodgers (+300) in the 2024 World Series odds, while the O’s are the fifth-favorite at +850.
Cole Dominates in Latest Rehab Start
Coming back elbow nerve inflammation that sidelined him in March, Cole showed no signs of rust in his latest rehab start, striking out 10 over just 4.1 innings against Rochester, the Nationals’ Triple-A affiliate.
Cole made two starts against the Orioles last year with mixed results. He allowed five runs on six hits and three walks over 5.0 innings with just two Ks on May 23. He was much better in the second, pitching seven shutout innings on July 28, allowing just three hits and no walks with five Ks. Ironically, the Yankees won the first (6-5 in extras) and lost the second (1-0).

*Cole’s stats from 2023 season.
Baltimore will give 24-year-old rookie Cade Povich his third career start on Wednesday. The 6’3 lefty was abysmal in his first start, giving up six runs on five hits and four walks against the Blue Jays on June 6. But he bounced back brilliantly last time out, holding the Braves to five hits, no walks, and no runs over 6.0 innings with six strikeouts on June 12.
A third-round pick of the Twins in the 2021 draft, Povich earned his callup with an outstanding start to his Triple-A season. The Nebraska product had a 3.18 ERA and 1.112 WHIP with Norfolk, averaging 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings. Control has been an issue, with a 3.3 BB/9 average, though that is down from 5.8 in 45.1 Triple-A innings last year.

Orioles vs Yankees Prediction for June 19
Cole won’t be asked to pitch too deep into his first start. The Yankees are in the luxurious position of holding a 2.5-game lead on the O’s in the AL East and would be 9.5 clear in the Wild Card race. They can play the long game and be extra cautious with their ace.
Relatively speaking, the O’s have great numbers against Cole as a team. In 151 ABs, Baltimore’s current lineup is slashing .258/.300/.437 against the 6’4 righty with five home runs and 12 doubles.
Baltimore’s bullpen is also outperforming the Yankees in almost every category this season. The Orioles’ pen has 3.18 ERA (third-best in MLB) and a 3.55 FIP (fourth). New York’s has a solid 3.35 ERA (sixth) but just a 3.85 FIP (14th).
I like the value on the Orioles at significant plus-money.
BAL vs NYY picks:
