The Indianapolis Colts have yet to find a permanent fixture at quarterback since Andrew Luck shockingly announced his retirement a few weeks before the start of the 2019 season. Seven different players have started under center for the team over the last four years, including fading stars (Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan) and veteran journeymen (Jacoby Brissett, Brian Hoyer, Carson Wentz, Nick Foles), and not one held on to the job for more than one campaign.

Indianapolis believes it solved that problem when it selected Anthony Richardson out of the University of Florida with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The ubertalented 21-year-old may begin the season behind newcomer Gardner Minshew, who spent the last two years primarily as the backup in Philadelphia, but it likely won't be long before he takes the reins. Last year at Florida, the 6-4, 224-pound Richardson threw for 2,549 yards and 17 touchdowns while running for 654 and nine, respectively.

Regardless of who first-year head coach Shane Steichen chooses to begin the year as the Colts' starting QB, the top target through the air will be Michael Pittman Jr. The 25-year-old wideout had 1,082 receiving yards during his 2021 sophomore campaign and nearly recorded his second straight 1,000-yard season last year, finishing 75 yards shy. Alec Pierce made 41 catches for 593 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie in 2022 and Isaiah McKenzie was brought in after registering a career-high 423 yards and four TDs with Buffalo last season.

The Colts were in the top-third in the NFL with 44 sacks last season, with defensive end Yannick Ngakoue's 9.5 leading the club. With Ngakoue becoming a free agent, the club is hoping Samson Ebukam will be a strong addition to a defensive line that includes tackle DeForest Buckner (eight sacks in 2022) and ends Kwity Paye (six) and Dayo Odeyingbo (five). The 28-year-old Nigerian recorded a career-high five sacks with San Francisco last year after registering 4.5 each of the previous three seasons.
