Will we get fireworks on Friday night in the Bay?
Check out my New Mexico vs San Jose State prediction and the betting odds below
Two Mountain West foes open their conference slate in a Friday night clash. New Mexico (3-1) and San Jose State (1-3) look to get off on the right foot in their eight-game conference slate. San Jose State plays host at 10:00 PM ET on Friday, October 3rd, on a Fox Sports 1 broadcast.
I have made my New Mexico vs San Jose State prediction and picks, plus set out the betting odds below.
New Mexico vs San Jose State Prediction
New Mexico has rebounded after a Week 1 loss at the Big House in Ann Arbor. They knocked off FCS Idaho State before clobbering UCLA and winning the Rio Grande Rivalry over New Mexico State last week. Now at 3-1, New Mexico has scored at least 32 points in three straight games.
Quarterback Jack Layne has been efficient thus far. He has eight total touchdowns, completing 69.3% of his passes for over 200 yards per game. His top target is tight end Dorian Thomas who has hauled in 24 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns. Receiver Keagan Johnson and running back Damon Bankston have contributed with over 100 yards and a touchdown each.
New Mexico TE Dorian Thomas (@DThomass19) has been a revelation for the Lobos this season after transferring from Arizona, bringing the kind of production they haven’t seen at the tight end spot in years.

The running back room has been a three-horse stable with Scottre Humphrey leading the way in carries, yards, and touchdowns. Bankston has added a pair of rushing touchdowns, and DJ McKinney is second on the team with 41 rushes.
San Jose State has had a brutal start to the season. Their lone win came over FCS Idado. Texas beat them 38-7 back in Week 2, but San Jose State’s other two losses were fourth-quarter collapses – including a last-second loss to Stanford last week.
