Indiana is expected to be a No. 10 seed in West Region, while Michigan is slated as a No. 7 seed in the South Region pert the latest March Madness bracket projection. The Wolverines are +2150 longshots in the odds to make the Final Four, while the Hoosiers have slightly longer odds at +2350.
As far as the Big Ten Tournament odds, Michigan entered at +1400 with Indiana at +2200.
It was the same old story for Mike Woodson’s team against the rival Boilermakers on Saturday: yet another close call against a superior team. Senior guard Xavier Johnson had a game-high 18 points and a career-high 12 assists, but his half-court heave to win it with 0.3 seconds left was an air ball. IU’s leading scorer, Trayce Jackson-Davis, finished with 15 points and six rebounds.
Meantime, Juwan Howard returns from his five-game suspension Thursday after associate head coach Phil Martelli alternated wins and losses in Howard’s absence. DeVante’ Jones scored a game-high 21 against the Buckeyes on Sunday, as the Maize and Blue earned the six-point victory without Hunter Dickinson — who missed the game with a stomach ailment.
Michigan Has Dominated Indiana in H2H History
The Wolverines have completely owned the Hoosiers of late, winning nine straight in the series – winning by an average margin of nearly 17 points. That run of success includes an 80-62 victory in Bloomington on Jan. 23 this season.
Dickinson scored 18 of his 25 points in the second half as Howard’s group put on a shooting clinic at Assembly Hall. The Wolves shot 56.9% from the field (29-of-51) and knocked down 11 of 17 shots from 3-point range (64.7%). Michigan should have Dickinson available Thursday.
The best way to describe this team’s play since an 82-76 loss to Purdue in West Lafayette on Feb. 5 is uneven. The Wolverines have gone 6-4 in that stretch, with wins over the Boilermakers, Iowa and Rutgers and losses to the Hawkeyes, Wisconsin and Illinois.
Michigan still has the potential to be a formidable team (ranking 18th in offensive adjusted efficiency by KenPom). But this group has also been wildly inconsistent, making it challenging to bet on UM outside of a game-by-game scenario.

Michigan is 6-5 ATS in Last 11
While Michigan has been up-and-down straight up since that loss to Purdue just over a month ago, it has also been that way against the spread — owning a 6-5 mark in that stretch. Indiana has not fared much better ATS in its last 11, going 5-6. The Hoosiers have gone 3-1 against the number in their last four, though — including that tough loss on Saturday to Purdue at 10.5-underdogs.
While Michigan is better on the offensive end, Woodson’s club gets it done on the defensive end. KenPom has IU ranked 20th in defensive adjusted efficiency and 17th in defensive effective field goal percentage. Three players score in double-digits for the Hoosiers (TJD, Race Thompson and Johnson).
Like Michigan, Indiana has been a challenging team to handicap this season. Following a 68-55 victory over Maryland in College Park on Jan. 29, the Hoosiers were 16-5. But Woodson’s guys have fallen off a cliff since, beating only Maryland and Minnesota.

Based on recent head-to-head history alone, I love Michigan in this spot.
When you factor in Howard’s return, the Wolverines should be able to offset any defensive advantage the Hoosiers might have and advance to Big Ten tourney’s quarterfinals.
